Dear Friends,
Fifth Annual Independent Pilot Competition now accepting entries
The New York Television Festival is proud to announce it is now accepting submissions to its fifth annual Independent Pilot Competition (IPC). The 2009 NYTVF will be held September 21st through the 26th.
Official Selections to the 2008 Independent Pilot Competition were screened directly for development execs, agents, and producers throughout the TV industry. Additionally, all pilots were broadcast online for viewers all over the world to enjoy, maximizing the exposure our artists received for their work. Our top entrants have the opportunity to work with some of the biggest producers in TV, such as Tom Fontana, Michael Davies, Mitchell Hurwitz, and Phil Rosenthal. They also have a chance to win cash prizes, development deals, and recognition unmatched anywhere else. In past years, pilots have been purchased for development by networks such as NBC, A&E, and Versus.
The NYTVF accepts pilots from 4 to 22 minutes in length in all categories and genres, both scripted and unscripted, live-action and animated. For more information, please visit www.nytvf.com or email us at submissions09@nytvf.com.

Do You Have a Great Idea for a TV Show?: A Starter’s Guide on Independent Television
Many people have had ideas for the perfect new TV show, but what comes next? Unless they have a relative working in development at a network, it can be very difficult for aspiring TV producers to get their voices heard. This panel introduces the audience to a group of independent producers who took matters into their own hands. Often armed only with easily accessible equipment and a few favors from friends, dozens of up-and-coming producers have created their own television pilots and showcased them for the decision-makers in the industry at the New York Television Festival. As a result of screening at the NYTVF, producers have secured deals with development departments at places such as NBC, A&E, and MSN. Come listen to the stories of independent producers who have used the NYTVF to help launch their careers in television.

Panelists include Kevin Napier ("Ex-Pats: Bangalore" 2007, “The Station” 2009) Barry Gribble (“Codeword Secret” 2007, “Saving Corporate America” 2008), Marty Johnson (“Strange Faculty” 2007, “Today’s Special” 2008) and James Murray (“Criss-Cross” 2005, “Super Mega-Awesome Travel Show”, 2006).

The NYTVF congratulates 2007 pilot-maker Kevin Napier for receiving a pilot order from FOX
Last week, The Hollywood Reporter announced that independent producer Kevin Napier’s comedy script, “The Station,” has been officially ordered as a pilot from the Fox network. The pilot is being produced by Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, with Stiller attached to direct the pilot. Napier is signed on to write the pilot script and to co-executive produce the pilot for FOX. Once the pilot is completed, FOX will decide whether to pick the show up for series in fall 2009 or later midseason.
Kevin Napier was the creator of a pilot in the 2007 NYTVF titled “Ex-Pats: Bangalore,” and that pilot earned Napier an NYTVF Fellowship in which he received a mentorship with Tom Fontana. Through this mentorship, Napier cultivated his project and presented it to development execs at Red Hour Films. Once Red Hour acquired the show, it was sent to development executives at FOX. The NYTVF is thrilled with the success of Kevin Napier and wishes him all the best in production of his pilot, ‘The Station.”
