Dear Friends,
The New York Television Festival (NYTVF) has joined with Signature Sponsor Procter & Gamble Productions (PGP) to announce an exciting new contest for female college seniors and recent graduates. The “Flying Solo TV Pilot Contest” invites young women to audition for the chance to make their lives the subject of a television pilot produced by PGP. The pilot will be shopped to network partners of the NYTVF for distribution. These pilots will combine professionally shot, third-person footage of the subject’s life with first-person footage shot by the subject. The objective is to discover budding female storytellers who not only lead interesting lives, but also have a unique ability to capture and present them on video.
To be eligible for the “Flying Solo” TV Pilot Contest, potential entrants must be female and must have graduated or be on track to graduate college during the 2007-2008 academic year. These entrants must shoot and produce an audition video introducing viewers to several aspects of their lives after graduation. The audition video must be between two and four minutes in length and must be shot primarily by the entrant. The video must be submitted online by uploading them to the official contest Web site located at www.nytvf.com/2008_pgp_info.htm. The deadline for submissions to the contest is May 23th, 2008. Good luck!
On April 30th, NYTVF staff will be hosting an information session for potential entrants to the NYTVF’s Independent Pilot Competition. The hour-long event will give independent producers that opportunity to learn more about the Festival and ask questions about the NYTVF. Admission is free, but seating is limited, so to reserve a spot, email us at: RSVP@nytvf.com.
The session will be held on Wednesday, April 30th at 6:30 PM at the following address:
For Your Imagination
22 West 27th Street
6th Floor
New York, NY 10001
As we mentioned in our last newsletter, the NYTVF will be hosting a panel on making independent pilots at this year's New York Comic Con. On Saturday, April 19 at 2 PM, we will present the following discussion:
DO YOU HAVE A GREAT IDEA FOR A TV SHOW? A STARTER'S GUIDE ON INDIE TV
Many people have had ideas for the perfect new TV show, but what comes next? This panel introduces the audience to a group of independent producers who took matters into their own hands. Often armed only with easily accessible equipment and a few favors from friends, dozens of up-and-coming producers have created their own TV pilots and showcased them for the industry decision-makers at the New York Television Festival. As a result of screening at the NYTVF, these producers have secured deals with development departments at places such as NBC, A&E, and MSN. Come listen to their stories and see highlights from their independently produced pilots.
(Nick Cogan: Exec Prod/Animator, Squid Dragon Legend, Dan McNamara: Exec Prod, Redeeming Rainbow, The Calderons, James Murray: Exec Producer/Creator, Criss-Cross)
In addition to our panel, there are several other TV-related events, listed below. The panel on writing for video games is worthy of special notice, as this is a field with significant growth potential for talented and creative writers.
