  • Dear Friends,

    --Single tickets are now available for all free independent pilot screenings, Production Day events and Digital Day events!

    Visit the online NYTVF Box Office for a complete schedule and to reserve your tickets to independent pilot screenings, digital content showcases, seminars and panel discussions. All pilot screenings at New World Stages will be free to attend. (Reservation is suggested)

    To order Single Tickets, Premium or Festival Passes to the 2008 NYTVF, visit nytvf.com and click on “Box Office.”

    *Admission to the Independent Pilot Competition screenings, while free, is not guaranteed and is subject to availability; online reservation for free events is suggested and requires a one-time nominal processing charge of $3.50.
    *To guarantee admission for all events, you must be present at the venue 15 minutes prior to the event's scheduled start time.
    *All Pass and Ticket sales are final, and no refunds or exchanges will be made. If lost, stolen, or destroyed, Passes and Tickets will not be replaced.



    --The NYTVF announces Production Day lineup

    Sunday, September 14th is NYTVF Production Day. Up-and-coming producers and content creators are invited to a series of seminars, talks, and panels offering hands-on tips for producing television and online video. Writing, directing, and producing will all be covered by experts in the field. Attendees receive free instruction and discounts on additional classes and seminars led by industry professionals. The day also features a talk with NY-based development execs discussing what it takes to pitch and sell an idea to a network.

    Production Day panel discussions:

  • Legal Frontiers of Content on Digital Platforms - 10:30 AM
    A collection of legal experts discuss the dividing line between what is and is not permissible use of content in the "Wild West" of digital platforms. The panelists will examine what usage is protected as fair use and parody, and what types of clearances are necessary to present original digital content online.

  • T2: Successfully Shifting between Theater and Television - 11:30 AM
    This panel examines the migration of theater artists into television and back again. With a writer, director, and actor, we will explore the challenges of working in both forms from an artistic and lifestyle perspective, look at the ways that storytelling and character development differ, and provide clues to navigate a successful cross-pollination.

  • Breaking into Daytime Dramas - 12:30 PM
    Presented by: Procter & Gamble Productions Daytime dramas comprise a significant portion of the NY television industry, employing hundreds of people in fields ranging from acting and writing to wardrobe and makeup to finance and business affairs. This panel will assemble a group of people employed on soap operas in a diverse array of fields to discuss what their responsibilities involve and how they got in the door. The audience will gain unique insight into the daily lives of those who labor tirelessly to produce hundreds of hours of original scripted programming every year.

  • Writers Boot Camp Sampler - 1:30 PM
    Writers Boot Camp offers an entertaining, informative and interactive discussion of “The Distinctions of Writing for Television,” hosted by Writers Boot Camp founder Jeffrey Gordon. Writers Boot Camp alumni have been staffed on more than 70 TV shows including Entourage, Weeds, and Grey's Anatomy, and have created shows such as Burn Notice. Jeff’s insightful industry knowledge, coming from over 20 years in the business, is empowering both to individuals already working professionally and those who are aspiring to transition into a career. The event will shed light on the mistakes most aspiring writers make in their approach and beliefs, and offer professional advice and tools that can immediately be applied to any project.

  • Writing Sketch Comedy with The P.I.T. - 2:45 PM
    A group of seasoned sketch comedy professionals, with experience on shows such as "Saturday Night Live" and "The State," offer instruction on their craft. This session introduces beginners to the basics of writing sketch comedy and gives those with experience valuable tips on how to refine and improve their work.

    This panel, featuring distinguished content creators and arbiters, offers audiences a primer on the best approaches to producing your Web series. Should you produce it yourself or wait for production money? How long should the show be, and how frequently should it appear? Do you syndicate, or offer it exclusively. Lastly, how do you get people to watch it? These questions and others will be addressed.
