Founded in 2005, The NYTVF is a pioneer of the independent television movement, connecting its community of artists with leading networks, studios, agencies, production companies, and brands.

Year-round submission opportunities for TV and digital development culminate at the New York Television Festival, uniting indie creators, industry decision-makers, and TV fans alike.

Terence Gray

“First and foremost, the NYTVF exists as a platform to showcase outstanding storytellers. Be it TV or digital, narrative or unscripted, traditional or short-form – if you have a story to share, this is the place to share it.”

- Terence Gray, Founder, NYTVF

Submitting to the NYTVF

The Festival’s Independent Pilot Competition and sponsored development initiatives have allowed selected artists to progress and succeed in the television industry. The NYTVF provides independent artists with multiple opportunities to create, share, and showcase their best and most promising ideas.

The Independent Pilot Competition (IPC) is the NYTVF’s flagship competition, accepting independently-produced, original television pilots and web series from around the globe.

For more information about the IPC and other initiatives, visit the NYTVF Submit page.

Connecting Artists and The Industry

If a project you create gets into the Festival (as an Official Selection in the IPC, NYTVF Scripts, or as a semi-finalist or finalist in a sponsored initiative), you are invited to attend the Festival as an Official Artist. The NYTVF provides a platform for the best creatives to expand their careers, generating opportunities for them to meet with members of the industry and fostering future collaborations.

Dan Pasternack

“I really, truly do love the New York Television Festival. There’s a lot that’s been written in the last couple of years about how we’re in sort of a new golden age of television. These guys have known that for a while, and in fact, really were the first television festival that I was involved with, and still, in my mind, the best. The best in terms of how they interact with the industry, and put people together, and in their treatment of artists."

- Dan Pasternack, Adjunct Professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts

Being an Official Artist automatically guarantees access to multiple Artist-Only programs at the Festival, including our Artist-Only track of events: NYTVF Connect. For more information on NYTVF Connect and the benefits of becoming an Official Artist, visit the NYTVF Connect Page.

The Festival in NYC

The NYTVF's individual development initiatives culminate at the New York Television Festival in Manhattan. The week-long celebration features screenings of the best independently-produced content, panels and talkbacks with industry leaders and creative luminaries, and red-carpet premieres with the stars and creatives behind the seasons' most anticipated new network and cable shows.

More information on the Festival.

In addition to the Festival, the NYTVF works year-round to inform, educate, and connect its community of independent creators with industry professionals. These events provide partners with messaging opportunities and artists with insights to the inner workings of the television business.
